Department of Basic Medical Science

The Department of Basic Medical Science (BMS) typically serves as the foundation for medical education and research. It encompasses various disciplines such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology, and pathology, among others. These fundamental sciences provide essential knowledge about the human body’s structure, function, biochemical processes, and disease mechanisms.

Students studying various medical specialties often study these basic sciences in the initial years of their curriculum to build a solid understanding of the human body before developing into clinical and pre-clinical courses. The department usually conducts research to advance knowledge in these foundational areas, which can contribute to medical innovations, disease understanding, and improved patient care.

Faculty members within the Department of Basic Medical Science often engage in both teaching and research activities, aiming to educate future healthcare professionals while also advancing scientific knowledge. They may collaborate with clinicians, other researchers, and industry partners to address pressing healthcare challenges and develop innovative solutions.
